Russia’s dominance in Syria with the help of Iran has tilted the tables decisively against the United States. America is no longer in a position to dictate terms. The Aleppo Victory, imminent as it looks, can prove to be the final nail in the coffin of America supported rebellion. American plan to defeat Iran through Syria is on the verge of death. It appears that Russia is not going to allow America any breather. With elections round the corner, America cannot afford to plunge itself into an open confrontation with Russia…….. We are surely entering a new phase where America cannot claim to be the lone Super Power. Revivalism of Black movement in its land, recurring violence of different kinds and the changed perception in Europe are going to keep it in check. If it tries anything dramatic, it can kill its superpowerdom forever.
Syria is on the brink of becoming for America what Afghanistan proved to be for Soviet Union in 1970s. Soviet Union fell soon after its ouster from Afghanistan and America has since then boasted of as the only superpower. Less than 50 years on, the cycle has reversed. Only the country of confrontation has changed. This time it is Syria; and Russia is playing to America what America did to it in Afghanistan. It was about three years back that I had predicted this in my write up, “If America attacks Syria, the World Can again become Bipolar” published in Milligazzette (Aug 28, 2013) and several other news portals, I had written:
“The problem is that Russia and China have taken a much tougher stand against American threats than they have done any time before in the last three decades. The Iranian angle makes things worse. The US and its Western allies fear that if they go ahead with their military plan, what remains an informal alliance of Russia, China and Iran, can suddenly become formal. From being defensive, which it has been in recent years, it can turn aggressive. The world, which had become unipolar with the end of the Cold War, can again become bipolar. And this time, the old Communist bloc can have a bigger and more open support of the resurgent Islamic world. The balloon of the myth of dependence of Muslim World on West can puncture.
“If West learns to behave, it will be better for the whole world. If it does not, while the mankind will suffer as a whole, Political and Economic West will also fast approach its inevitable decline.”
Then on September 14, 2013, I wrote another article in Muslim Mirror, entitled, “Thanks to Syria, We are back to Bipolar World”. I wrote:
“Now the world has begun to realize. We are back to a bipolar world. For the first time in several decades, American initiative on an international crisis has been squarely defeated. And for the first time a Russian initiative has won.
“Vladimir Putin has played the diplomatic game with perfection this time. He has taken care to work on all fronts. First, he took an aggressive stand against the strikes; even calling America’s stand “utter nonsense”, then launched a UN peace offensive obviously in consultation with Syria, Iran and China, and then launched a public relations exercise by addressing directly to the American people through an article. He knew pretty well that American people are more intelligent and more peace loving than the American political and economic forces that are always keen to threaten the world. He also rightly judged that the people of America are in no mood to be fooled by its President. American State might have lost but American people have won.”

Three years later, it is becoming more and more evident that Syria is fast becoming America’s Afghanistan. Afghanistan defeat had brought Russia down in comparison to America; Syria has brought Russia back to the centre stage. America’s wars against terror have produced nothing but a total loss of face for it. The Chilcot and other reports have clearly established that the war against Iraq and then the intervention in Libya were totally uncalled for. Now, the failure of West to topple Assad’s regime even after five years of exported rebellion has proved that their high-handedness and machinations have boomeranged on them. The whole Muslim world except a few rulers loathes America for killing more than 3 million innocent Muslims since 9/11. Even Saudi Arab will have to rethink its strategy after the Congressional Bill against it, which allows the families of the victims of 9/11 to drag Saudi government into American courts. In the aftermath of the Nuclear Treaty with Iran, Iran has been busy in trying to create a wedge between Europe and America. Europe has realised that toeing the United States like minions has not helped its cause and has plunged it into deep economic crisis. Europe wants to rebuild relations with Middle East. Turkey can no longer be taken for granted. Both Turkey and Pakistan are trying to resuscitate their relations with Russia. With elections round the corner, America cannot afford to plunge itself into an open confrontation with Russia. By the time the next President is sworn in, Syria crisis will have taken the decisive turn.
We are surely entering a new phase where America cannot claim to be the lone Super Power. Revivalism of Black movement in its land, recurring violence of different kinds and the changed perception in Europe are going to keep it in check. If it tries anything dramatic, it can kill its superpowerdom forever. It is now more than clear that we are living in a different world and a different Middle East than it was three years back.
